2012 Quizzes and Competitions

2012 is a year of celebration for a host of reasons, not least for CILIP and the Carnegie & Kate Greenaway Children’s Book Awards who respectively celebrate their 10th, 75th and 55th anniversaries!

Ahead of the announcement of the winners of this year’s Medals, we have put together a fun writing competition for Primary and Secondary school students in the UK & Ireland to enter, which asks them to reflect on all the winning titles to date.
Competition for Primary school students:

Look at all the books that have won the CILIP Carnegie or Kate Greenaway Medal since the first prize was awarded in 1937. Choose your favourite character from one of the award-winning titles and write about how they would celebrate their birthday in no more than 150 words.

Competition for Secondary school students:

Every year the Judging Panel spends hours poring over the longlist of titles for the CILIP Carnegie & Kate Greenaway Children’s Book Awards to determine which will make the shortlist for each Medal, and who - ultimately - the winners will be. Consider all the titles to have won either the CILIP Carnegie or Kate Greenaway Medal prior to 2012 and make the case for one ‘all-time’ winner in no more than 500 words.
